The Diapason the Wizard Method: learning music in childhood.

Diapason the Wizard is a music-teaching method aimed at children aged between 6 months and 7–8 years.  We teach musical language and develop their absolute pitch. We start from the proven premise that any child can develop absolute pitch; it is a matter of training. They therefore learn, just as they learn their mother tonguein a completely natural way — and, above all, it’s fun.

How do children learn with Diapason the Wizard?

With an innovative, original methodology, our aim is to train children’s aural skills from 6 months to 7–8 years and enrich their lives by supporting development across other areas: concentration, psychomotor skills, perseverance, sociability, optimism, etc. In short, everything that will help them develop their personality in the future. Unlike any other methodology, it trains children’s ears to identify the real sounds of the diatonic scale (absolute pitch); we are pioneers in this field and guarantee results. Through stories, songs and routines adapted to each age groupThroughout the classes they enter the tale Viajando al País de la Música, where they will meet lots of characters who help them understand musical language: the wizard Mago Dipasón himself, The Staff, the magical the notes, the G clef, the C clef, the F clef, Composition the Wizard, the Fairy Harmony, etc. They will also sing and enjoy songs that teach them rhythms, the notes, and thus, little by little in a different and entertaining way they incorporate into their lives a language that will bring them many benefits.

In addition to the classes, children will have at their disposal teaching materials: from drawings, books and stories to an innovative digital platform where they can continue training their absolute pitch. The method is currently translated into English (the language used in many classes) and Catalan.

How did it come about?

When Paqui Castro became pregnant 26 years ago with her first child, she began to organise and develop the ideas that made this method possible. Faced with the challenge of motherhood she looked inward and felt she had to help her baby develop their full potential; she was convinced that only in a rich, stimulating environment could her child develop all their intellectual abilities to the highest level. Diapason the Wizard, was created to teach music to a child, to enter their world using their own language and emotions. At present Paqui Castro’s son, Pablo Ferrandez, is an internationally recognised musician.. More than 20,000 children have already learnt music with the Diapason the Wizard method and Paqui Castro continues developing new songs, stories, activities and apps, making it a constantly evolving method.

Who are the teachers?

There are currently official Diapason the Wizard teachers throughout Spain and Mexico, but the method is undergoing rapid expansion, offering new training courses every three months. These courses guarantee results from day one, as we know there is a real demand from students who cannot find a specific method for these ages that teaches musical language and ear training.

The requirements to access the Diapason the Wizard teacher training are that they be musicians with an intermediate conservatory qualification and, of course, be fun, cheerful and patient when working with children
